About This Website

This is a website I built for two reasons. One was to describe some of the trips that have been taken as part of GEOL 290 Regional Geology at Minot State University. These are just the trips that I have led or co-led––of course there have been other trips taken as part of the course when taught by other faculty members.

The other reason for the website was to provide a place where Big Dub Software could be accessed. The main program that I developed is Magmatica, which provides a variety of tools for igneous petrology. Magmatica was put together from, and has evolved from a suite of computer programs that I wrote while working on my PhD dissertation. Other miscellaneous programs may also be made available, and the hope is that one day I may develop Magmatica and other programs as web-based programs.

The nickname Big Dub was given to me by students who participated in one of the earlier GEOL 290 trips. They apparently had too much free time, which they used to transform an action figure (not a doll!) into a rough likeness of me and a colleague. Thus, Little Dub and Big Dub were born.
