Not much to report except that we got back last night. We left the hotel in Rawlins, WY on time––few minutes early even. Along Hwy 220, on the way toward Casper, we made a stop at Independence Rock, a stop-over point along the Oregon Trail––and a nice example of a small exfoliation dome of exposed granite.

After going through Casper, we traveled to Wright and then Gillette, passing oil fields and coal mines as we crossed the energy rich Powder River Basin. We opted to bypass Devils Tower, and kept going east on I-90. We stopped for a very windy lunch at the rest area in Sundance, WY––and some Bear Lodge Mts and Black Hills geology. From there it was on to Spearfish, SD, then north on US 89 into North Dakota. We got back a little before 9:00 pm, which was about 1.5 hours ahead of the no-Devils Tower expected arrival. We didn't have snowy/icy roads today, but plenty of strong winds during much of our 780 miles––Nice to be home safely!
