We left about 10:45 this morning from Mather Campground for showers and laundry (since they were closed by the time we got out from the hike yesterday)—and for much needed rest. We got one last evidence of our time at GCNP on the way out.

Then we continued east to Cameron, then north, and then east to Kayenta where we ate lunch in a parking lot. From Kayenta we traveled north to Monument Valley.

We found (I think) the place where Forrest Gump decided to end his cross-country running, but the sign had been taken down! We took some pictures anyway; I’ll have to try using Photoshop to add the sign. We continued north into Utah to Goosenecks State Park. It is a great overlook of big bends in the San Juan River—a classic example of incised meanders.

From Goosenecks SP we went back southeast, back to US 160, then east to Four Corners, but the Monument was closed. Many photo opps lost! We went north to Cortez, checked in at the Cozy Inn (not so sure about the cozy part), and then went to get dinner. Planning to leave at 8:00 to go to Mesa Verde NP.
