We pulled out of Nephi at 7 am and after a traditional photo opp at Beaver, we made it to Zion National Park a little after 10:30.

It took a while to get through the entrance station—lots of cars, lots of people. We checked out the visitor’s center and then had lunch in the parking lot.

To get up the canyon you have to take a shuttle bus… after waiting in a long line. Our first stop was at the end of the road where we hiked about a mile up toward the Narrows—went as far as we could without having to cross the Virgin River.

After hiking back to the beginning, we caught a shuttle part way back down the canyon to where the Zion Lodge is located. It was also the trailhead for the Emerald Pools trails—did another short hike there.

Then we caught a shuttle back to the visitor’s center, then headed to Watchman Campground. After getting set up, we cooked a spaghetti dinner and enjoyed a fire.

Heading to bed now—planning to be on the road by 8:00.
