This was 5:59 am on a very cold morning. We were loaded and ready to pull out on time! Kudos to everyone for being on time and loading up efficiently!

We saw some good geology and great scenery along the way today. We had a chilly but sunny lunch at a rest area west of Miles City.

The weather was good all day except for some fierce winds once we got near the Crazy Mountains. Traveling south on US 191 toward West Yellowstone, we stopped to look at and bang on some Precambrian gneiss in the Gallatin River valley.

There were some flurries for a while before getting to West Yellowstone—nothing sticking to the road, just a reminder of the higher elevation.

We made it to West Yellowstone about an hour ahead of schedule, checked in at the Brandin’ Iron Inn, the headed down the street to Bullwinkle’s—good food, but no Rocky.

Planning an early start in the morning, but not before the provided 6 am hot breakfast.
